Post-exercises Nutrition
Improving your performance and building muscle starts with your post-exercise nutrition. The post-exercise recovery meal plays an important role in the success of your next workout. If you are interested in improving your performance and recovering properly it is critical that you refuel within 30-60 minutes post-exercise. Following an intense exercise the body begins breaking down muscle to fuel itself and to preserve it’s pre-exercise state. Refueling during this period is optimal to aid your body in restoring lost nutrients, helping muscle tissue recover and repair, and replaces fluids lost in sweat. I always enjoy a shake after I workout and here is one I make on a regular basis. I also enjoy this shake after dinner, it’s like a little treat without being loaded with carbs and sugar!
Chocolate strawberry shake
1Cup frozen strawberries
1 Cup almond milk
1 Scoop Chocolate whey protein
1/2 Banana
1 TBL agave necter
Breakfast in a hurry with a Vita Mix 5200
Most of my mornings are spent racing around the house, chasing my boys and trying to get them and myself ready for the day. Like many working moms I have little time to COOK a breakfast. In January my husband and I were shopping at Sams Club and they had a sales-rep for Vita-Mix making shakes. After a long trip around the store and some personal encouragement we decided to purchase the Vita-Mix 5200. Why the encouragement you ask? The Vita-Mix blender is a little pricey….With that being said it is well worth the money and has made healthy nutritious breakfasts a possibility in my home. Here is a recipe for a green shake. Yes GREEN! Made with spinach and loaded with nutrition plus it’s delicious. Even my boys get excited when they hear the blender going!
Green Shake
3 Cups Spinach
1/2 Cup Green grapes
1 Cup Pineapple
1 Kale Leaf
1 Banana
1 Cup Coconut milk or almond milk
2 Scoops of protein
5-6 Ice Cubes
